Ellery Fall 2011

I think there’s something to be noted of Aussie designers… One Teaspoon is up there in one of my top favorite casual lines then there’s always Sass & Bide and Ksubi… Ellery has happened to be the latest that’s caught my eye..

too late to buy sweaters?

Well, I don’t think so. Not in NYC at least. Didn’t know Mother Nature was such a tease.

I really thought this weekend I’d take more pictures but sadly I didn’t… I get so caught up in the moment(s) I guess. First stop this weekend, Dallas, was so much fun. We played the same House of Blues we always play, the same House of Blues I’ve gotten all (3) of my tattoos backstage at, but the tattoo artist didn’t come to the show this time… It was another show with Apache Relay, a band of awesome guys that reminds me a little bit of a twist of Avett and Mumford but just a little more hardcore. They rock, and it turns out I went to high school with the lead singer. Small, small world… We had so much fun all together and ended the night with a jam session on the bus where they brought all the guitars and the fiddle and we all sang and laughed and had beers. Such a good last hang. I was left wishing I could really make their Webster Hall show on April 9th as I’d promised but I’ve already booked out that weekend for another run on tour, damn..

The next day I woke up in Corpus Christi, TX. We pulled the bikes (Dahon, they’re collapsible) out from under the bus and went for a long bike ride along the water. It was beautiful and nice to um.. soak up the Corpus Christi culture.. Lots of families grilling along the beach and in the parking lots. We ended our ride with a seafood lunch on the water and I think I ate a pound of boiled shrimp… Later on the way to the show, literally twenty minutes before, we squeezed in a pre-show dinner of oysters on the half shell and a couple pounds of boiled crawfish at Crawdaddie’s, which was a block from the venue. A place named Crawdaddie’s, I had to go. I miss crawfish so much. Growing up we’d all go to my grandmothers’ house on the river and set up big aluminum tables covered in newspaper while my uncles boiled up perfectly seasoned crawfish with potatoes, corn and vegetables. One of my favorite foods ever by far. The show itself was great as usual. After pulling away from the bus we departed on one of the tougher travel day combinations. The bus dropped us, after we’d slept a couple hours on it, at 4am at a San Antonio airport hotel, where we slept an hour before we headed out to the airport for our 7am flight through Charlotte home to the castle in Boston, where I had an hour to freshen up before heading out to a shoot for the rest of the afternoon. Pretty brutal, but we got by and relished in two nights off of everything with the exception of another shoot Tuesday as well.

Today I booked my first flight home to Mississippi since the Christmas holidays for this weekend. I can’t wait to see my parents and my sister and little brothers again and get some well-deserved quality time with them. I’ll definitely get some pictures from down south for the blog for next week, and in the meantime as the snow falls outside my window here in New York City, dreams of our trip to Brazil for tour this Summer dance in my head…

Why no pic of the ring? Is there any rhyme or reason for that?

Its only the most special and important thing I’ve ever had in my life.. And why show it off? Its special.

Think you guys will get married? You make the cutest couple ever!!!!

He’ll be the king, and I’ll be the queen. We’re engaged now so yes we’re getting married at some point, and I’m really looking forward to spending the rest of my life with this guy.

Have i seen you in Cosmo or another magazine before?

A year or so ago I used to shoot for Cosmo a lot, and they really love to recycle old pictures from the photoshoots, so every once in a while I’m in that magazine, among others..

Is it true that you met your fiancé at one of his shows? That's so rad!!

I WISH I knew of him before we met enough to go to one of his shows! I would have been his number one queen groupie happily! But no. We met at a club in Miami through a mutual friend 3 years ago. I brought him home to meet my roommates, who weren’t home that night, we hung out and talked until the sun came up, he left for Australia and called me every day on tour and we fell in love with each other. Soon after Miami I moved to New York City and he came back home to Boston, I hopped on a train and we finally went on our first date in Boston, then I took him back to NYC with me the next day. The rest is history.

Back on board.

Spring, soon come, soon come.

Phew! Funny how exhausting actual work is. You wish and wish and hope and pray for it to come flowing in then it happens and you wish and wish and hope and pray for the weekend to come and really start looking to parties on Friday nights, not Tuesdays, and Saturdays of just..sleeping. Recently still I signed with a new agency here in New York City and it was the luckiest decision/ultimatum I’ve ever taken. So here I am in the city again, missing time spent with friends in Los Angeles (this time last year was one of the most fun times of my life), and touring and playing out my Penny Lane fantasies on the weekends. —Because it’s that time of year again! Yes it is. Time for late nights romping around random small cities with friends I’ve met here and there and across the map, reunited in excitement and venturing off to get lost in my mans’ music and passion that lights up that stage and the room every night. Yes it’s time for tour again and it’s been happening!! This morning I touched down back at JFK after a 4 day weekend beginning in Orlando, waking up in St. Petersburg and partying on down to Ft. Lauderdale. Following Ft. Laud we had a well-deserved day off. Especially well-deserved for him, seeing as he played 6 nights in a row before that. He pays his dues! We love every minute. We spent it in Bal Harbor with a close, special couple of dear friends lying around on the beach drinking rose’ on ice and Margaritas out of the cooler. Then, we had dinner at Carpaccio in Bal Harbor, by far the best italian meal I’ve had since Milan last September. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Now, ladies and gentle gentlemen, for an announcement: We’re buying our first house together! It’s so exciting. The house used to be the spanish embassy of the city and has an imported 17th century fresco on the ceiling right when you walk through the front door, looking down on the living room. If it sounds crazy that’s because it kind of is. Which is perfect seeing as we’re also a little crazy… aren’t we all?

A new workspace, with lots of fresh flowers that were leftover after a shoot last week, having been used as props. The southern girl that I am, I took them all home and made beautiful arrangements to brighten up my place a bit.
